A little about me ~
TLTR:
Process driven creative problem solver, motivated by new challenges, learning new design and manufacturing processes and who gets bored with repetition. I prefer to be hands-on through out the design process, needing to know how systems work and why, seeking ways to add value through innovation. I’m productive independently or collaborating with a team without a designer ego.
More:
Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I started college at Oklahoma State University studying mechanical design before discovering Industrial Design, which I found to be much more interesting and creative. I then transferred to Arizona State University where I graduated with a BS in Industrial Design.
The first 4 years out of college I worked for Nordic Boats designing and building tooling for interior molded foam parts, programming CNC equipment for production, and designing exterior gel coat graphics. Working for a small custom boat company was great because it balanced design and CAD work behind a desk with working in the shop building with my hands.
Growing out of that position I joined Radica Games where I had the opportunity to design electronic hand held games from concept to production. This included developing the entire user experience, user interface, game design, industrial design, and packaging. While at Radica I helped build and lead the design team from 2 to over 30, with offices in Dallas, San Francisco, and the UK to support the growth into new categories including handheld games, GirlTech youth electronics, plug-n-play TV games, and gaming peripherals for Nintendo, Xbox, & Playstation. Our technical innovations and expertise in electronic games led to the acquisition by Mattel. My team relocated to Mattel’s HQ where I stayed on for another 4 years before realizing it was much more fun working with startups and small companies not driven by short term quarterly earnings.
After 18 years in the toy and game business I was ready for a change and joined TrackingPoint, a startup in Austin, TX, where I applied my experience in digital and physical user interface design, to precision firearms and mobile apps. My work at TrackingPoint naturally led to projects with other manufacturers of electro-optic and hunting products.
I’m currently a Principal Design Engineer at Alen, where I’m focused on designing high performing air purification and air care products that help people live happier and healthier lives by breathing clean air in their home.
Most importantly I’m happily married to my high school sweet heart and have 3 wonderful and talented children and 3 dogs. In my off hours I’m working on my 53’ chevy truck resto mod or remodeling something in the house. I love life!
